Devotees of Padre Pio in Eastern Visayas gathered at Sto. Nino Church in Tacloban City today for a send-off Mass and vigil for the relics of the saint.

The relic – St. Pio’s “holy gloves” – will be brought to Manila tomorrow.

People from all walks of life went to see the relics during the three-day visit to the towns of Palo, Burauen, Dagami, Babatngon and Ormoc.

Padre Pio, who was known to have received the ”stigmata,” or the crucifixion wounds of Jesus, was canonized by Pope John Paul II on June 16, 2002.

The gloves of the saint supposedly protected his hand from “bleeding.”
